Cricket was started in Botswana by expatriates from South Africa and the Indian subcontinent. It has started to make strides in the game since becoming an Associate Member of the ICC in 2005.

Its success in the Pepsi ICC Africa World Cricket League - runners up in 2006 and winners in 2008 - has paved the way to the international stage. It has not found life easy since its elevation, however, being relegated from ICC World Cricket League Division Five and Six in successive years, meaning its next participation will be in World Cricket League Division Seven in March-April 2011.

Cricket was introduced to Cameroon as part of a project of the Commonwealth Students and Youth Development Organisation. The project, dubbed The Cameroon Cricket Outreach Program (CCOP), was initiated by Victor Agbor-Nso and had the objectives of using cricket to promote Commonwealth values and ideals, bringing cricket to Cameroon at grassroots level, and ultimately using cricket to attain other youth empowerment and development goals.

IAs cricket grew in popularity, moves were made to create a national body to control and manage the game and Cameroon's ministry in charge of Sports and Physical Education for the formation of such a federation set conditions. On 15th February 2005, a ministerial decision officially recognised the Cameroon Cricket Federation (FECACRICKET) as the sole governing body of the sport in Cameroon.

Ghana became an Affiliate Member of the ICC in 2002 and the game has grown there ever since. Its first international participation came in 2006 when it competed in Division 3 of the ICC Africa World Cricket League. Its third-place finish was hugely encouraging and it followed that up by winning the following event – in 2008 in South Africa – to gain promotion to Division 2.

Ghana more than held its own in the 2010 ICC Africa World Cricket League Division 2 – held in Benoni, South Africa in April – as it finished in second place to maintain its spot for the next event. A record of just one defeat in six matches – that to title winners Zambia – augurs well for the future.

HistoryCricket was introduced to Kenya in the 1880s, after it had been brought under British influence. The first significant match took place in December 1899 when East African Protectorate took on the Rest of the World in Mombasa. The first Kenyan touring side visited Uganda in 1914 and achieved a five-wicket victory against the hosts.

Kenya joined the ICC in its own right in 1981 as an Associate Member and its progress was impressive from there on. Its runners-up place in the 1994 ICC Trophy meant it qualified for the 1996 ICC Cricket World Cup in the sub-continent. It was during that tournament that it claimed its most famous victory to date - bowling West Indies out for 93 to claim a 73-run triumph against its exalted rivals.

The development of cricket in Lesotho remains a work in progress. It became an Affiliate Member of the ICC in 2001 and made its international debut in 2006.Lesotho's baptism on the major stage was more about gaining experience than achieving great success. It was no surprise therefore, when it finished eighth and last in the Pepsi ICC Africa World Cricket League Division 3.

It did gain a victory in the group stage - against Malawi - on its way to finishing sixth in 2008 before slumping back to fifth and last place in Division 3 in 2009. Women's cricket is also beginning to gain a footing, with the Lesotho Cricket Association - in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Gender - launching their Women's Cricket Programme in Maseru in July 2005.

Malawi, a former British Colony and stronghold in East Africa cricket, has a history of the game dating back five decades. It became an Affiliate Member of the ICC in 2003 and, despite being a relatively new cricketing nation on the international stage, it has already experienced success. A respectable fourth-place finish in the inaugural Pepsi ICC Africa World Cricket League Division 3 tournament in 2006 was followed up by fifth spot in 2008. Then, in October 2009, Malawi not only hosted but won all five of its matches to Division 3 in fine style.

Such is the infrastructure for the game in Malawi that all of the matches were played on turf wickets. Unfortunately, it was immediately relegated back to the bottom tier as it failed to win any of the matches in 2010 ICC Africa World Cricket League Division Two, held in South Africa.

History Malians began playing organised cricket in Mali in 2002 at a school (Kalanso) in Djelibougou, a part of Bamako. The following year, 2003, saw the founding of the 'Association Malienne pour le Cricket (AMaCrik)' in Bamako by a Malian English teacher, Mr Kawory Berthé, his colleagues and a British family. The first-ever cricket tournament in Mali was held in 2003 between different classes at Kalanso school. The following year, 2004, cricket spread to other schools in the area.

Domestic competition The domestic cricket season runs from October to July each year, and follows the rhythm of schools activities. Senior cricket consists of the 'Championnat National Malien de Cricket' now in it's second edition in 2009 : with local/regional qualifying competitions in March-May and finals in July. The first Malian National championship was held in Sikasso in 2008 ; Segou is expected to host the 2009 finals.

Four clubs keep the game alive in Mauritius, Maurindia, Star, Spartan and United Cricket Clubs. Maurindia is arguably the leading club and twice yearly plays the Seychelle Islands representative team in reciprocal visits. Later this year it will travel to Zimbabwe to play the Hindu Gymkhana Club.

Club is expanding rapidly with new members joins it from time to time. All are members are very much excited about their first tournament and are very much confident about their wining.

Morocco's entry into international cricket has been a stop-start affair since becoming an Affiliate Member of the ICC in 1999. Their first tournament participation came in 2006 when it finished in fifth place - out of the eight - in the Pepsi ICC Africa World Cricket League Division 3. Since then, it has withdrawn from the 2008 and 2009 events - the latter after the players' visas were not accepted for the Malawi competition - so have missed out on furthering its development.

Its facilities were deemed suitable to host a three-team tournament involving three major Test playing nations in 2002 - Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka - in Tangier. The country has not held another competition since, however, and will be eager to see its national side return to tournament play soon.

Dominated by soccer, Mozambique only occasionally saw cricket being played on a very casual basis by immigrants and foreign residents from southern Asia, the UK and South Africa.

Domestic competition At senior level, domestic competitions include: the National Cricket League, the Mozal Cricket League and the India Cup knockout tournament. At junior level, it has: inter- and intra-schools U15 and U17 tournaments, played under the National Commission for School Cricket. History The first recorded history of cricket being played in the then South West Africa region was during the first World War in the Okonjande prisoner of war camp near Otjiwarongo. However, photographs exist of cricket being played in Windhoek as early as 1909, when Namibia was very much a German colony. The South West Africa Cricket Union was formed in 1930 and the first organised matches were then played. From 1962, South West Africa participated in the South African Country districts tournaments on an annual basis.

Youth Cricket has grown tremendously over the last few years and now has age-group teams that have participated in the ICC-ACA tournaments with great distinction. The development programme has been very successful and more local Namibians are being attracted to the game. Cricket continues to grow and is now recognised as one of the most successful sporting codes in Namibia. It has a proud record of achievements since independence and the challenge remains to involve and attract even more Namibians to participate.

HistoryCricket was introduced into and first played in Nigeria by British colonial administrators in the 19th century. Later on, English missionaries and army personnel added impetus to the spread of the game. The first recorded international cricket match involving Nigeria was against the Gold Coast (now Ghana) in 1904.

In later developments, the NCA sent players on training tours of England in 1975, 1981 and 1990. During these visits, players trained at the Alf Gover Cricket School and Lord's, while also playing friendlies. The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has visited Nigeria on three occasions, in 1976, 1994 and 2004. In 1976, the MCC won all its matches convincingly; however in 1994, it experienced its first defeat in West Africa, losing once to an inspired Nigerian team on 19th January by three wickets in the first of a two-match series. In more recent times, from 2000, Nigeria has taken part in the ACA tournaments as well as the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 7 ? in which it will next compete in 2011.

HistoryCricket was initially introduced into the Seychelles by the British during the colonial times in the late 20th century. An area named Gordon Square was rented from the government by the Seychelles Amateur Cricket Club. Matches were played against visiting ship crews and during World War II, matches were organised between nationalities that were posted in Seychelles at the time.

As of 2010, there are eight senior teams playing in competitions with two tournaments being held during the year. Seychelles also has a women's team and four teams playing in the children's league. The sport is played by both the locals as well as immigrant cricket lovers who come from all corners of the world. Although the game is not very popular with the local populace, SCA has been trying to create awareness by using the local media, newspapers and television.

History Cricket took hold in South Africa from the time that Great Britain began to seize control from the Dutch in the late 1700s (the whole of South African Dutch possession finally being ceded through the Anglo-Dutch Treaty in 1814). The first recognised cricket match in the history of South Africa was played on 5 January 1808 between two teams of English officers posted there. Interest accelerated sufficiently for South Africa to become the third Test nation (following in the footsteps of England and Australia) in 1889 (the same year that first-class cricket began in the country) against England at St George's Park Cricket Ground in Port Elizabeth. It was also one of the three founder Members of the ICC in 1909.

Domestic Structure A six-team franchise system was introduced in 2004-05 to replace the previous 11 teams who had been contesting the major domestic competitions. Those six teams compete in a four-day and two limited-overs tournaments. The first-class programme is called the SuperSport Series, with each team playing the others home and away. There is also a 45-over competition "the MTN Domestic Championship" along with the Standard Pro20 that began in 2003-04.

History It is not clear when cricket was introduced to St Helena Island, but there are references to it being played on the island in the early part of 1844. The earliest records so far discovered, however, are the minutes of the meetings of the St Helena Cricket League, which date from 1903. It would seem from these minutes that the St Helena Cricket League was the governing body regulating the game on the island. There were local teams centred in the major areas of population, such as the capital, Jamestown and various regiments of the British Army garrisoned on St Helena from time to time.

Domestic competition There is only one designated sports field on the island. This is utilised for six months of the year for cricket competitions and the remaining six months for football. There are three cricket competitions - league, knock-out and district. The season starts in November/December and ends in May/June.

HistoryCricket in Swaziland started in late 1970 with the white expatriates who came into Swaziland to work. The game was played among these expatriates at their exclusive country clubs. The local Swazi people were not welcome so it eventually died out in the early 1990s. A group of five people then decided to revive cricket and take it to the local people. Work initially started in 2005 with the schools that were still playing cricket and Swaziland was eventually accepted as Affiliate Member of the ICC in June 2007.

International competition Swaziland's first international outing was the U15 cricket team's participation in a four-nation tournament in Botswana in June 2007. Swaziland is yet to make its international debut at senior level.

HistoryThe Tanzania Cricket Association came into existence immediately after independence in 1961. It was formerly known as Tanganyika Cricket Association. The existence of the association dates back to 1946 when the three colonial countries of East Africa were bound together with Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika, making the East African Cricket Conference. Cricket in Tanzania dates back to 1890, in Zanzibar where the first official fixture was played.

Domestic competitionThe domestic competition in Tanzania runs from June to April every year. Senior cricket consists of tournaments organised by Dar es Salaam Regional Cricket Committee in Dar es Salaam region and Arusha Regional Cricket Committee in Arusha.

History The game of cricket has been played in Zambia since the early 1900s. It wasn’t until the late 1950s or so that organised cricket in the then territory of Northern Rhodesia was firmly established as Northern Rhodesia Cricket Union (NRCU). For three to four decades the game was under the control of expatriates and local people were not encouraged, at first, to take part in either the playing or administrative aspects of the game.

Domestic CompetitionMidlands Cricket Association has three leagues with 15 teams in the 'A' league and 10 teams in the 'B' league. The Copperbelt has U15 and U19 schools leagues.
