27 January 2008 Attn: - Mr. GreylingCc: - Mr. Pieters, Mr. ErasmusRe: - Gerhard Rudolf visit to the coast. On arrival on Thursday afternoon in Swakopmund, first coaching session started at the Vineta Sports Ground. Before the start of session between me and Gerhard, we discussed which format would be ideal. With the two nets, I ran the bowling and batting side as Gerhard worked in the second net on basic and important skills such as grip, stance and proper weight movement including head moving forward towards line of ball delivered, playing of front foot check drive, keeping figure nine, final result almost full weight on front food and balancing on back foot inside toe. At 17H00 we left for Walvis Bay there we had fielding drills and net going at same time rotating bowlers and batters, with the time left we had throw downs in side nets working on some batting problems. The first day ended on high note, it was very refreshing for both the school and senior cricketers to have some one from outside visiting. Friday We got together at A1 for breakfast, with only one session in 20/20 over match form later the afternoon we took Gerhard on a tour to the few Primary schools involve with mini cricket namely, Flamingo P.S, Dune Side, Walvis Bay P.S and Duine Sig Junior Secondary. At Narraville P.S we arranged a coaching session with Ms. Strauss with her Grade 1 learners, with only 27 min left, Justus and I demonstrated to Gerhard how we run/conduct a coaching session to the new learners. The 1st skill demonstrated was the grip (how to hold the cricket bat properly); a simulation was the order of the day giving a few boys a chance to have a swing at the ball. We ended the session with a photo included with this report. At 14H00 the boys started turning up for the 20/20 over match, 4 extra boys turned up and we included them with the other. With the U/13, 15 mixed and ready for the match Gerhard introduced him to all the players and wished them best of luck. Gerhard requested to umpire the match, to have better view on players on the field of play. I joined him on the field during the match to take some picture; he was very impressed with the level of a couple of boys. Although a few stood out above the rest, he made it clear cricket is there for every one who loves the game. The U/13’ drew the most attention, with there bowling batting and fielding. After the match he wished all the best with their cricket, the boys enjoyed the day with us and thanked him for coming. It was great to meet Gerhard, from the word go we got of to a good start and ended it that way. This type/kind of initiative should be repeated in future, involving the national players to visit and motivate the young cricketers at schools. Thank you from the coast. Yours in cricket John & Justus
